Three Global Chief Nursing Conferences
On October 21, 2001 an historic event was held at the Lillian Carter Center for Global Health & Social Responsibility: the inaugural Global Chief Nursing Conference. Chief nursing officers, chief medical officers, and human resources experts descended on Emory’s campus from around the world to discuss issues plaguing the nursing workforce and health care delivery. Because of the overwhelming success of the conference in 2001, it was held twice more in 2004 and 2006. Attendance grew by 50 percent each year, and by the last conference there were
190 participants representing 107 countries. Experts gathered to discuss topics ranging from sustaining the nursing workforce, emerging biological threats, and the global shortage of health workers. Together, they developed novel techniques which fortified the nursing industry and were implemented around the globe.
