Serving While Learning

Nursing students are drawn to Emory because of its emphasis on service-learning, a teaching method that incorporates community service into the curriculum. Service-learning is a thread that touches every course, every student, every faculty member, and every patient Emory nurses care for today and in the future.

From the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas to Georgia and West Virginia, the Lillian Carter Center has coordinated service-learning initiatives at home and across the world.

Providing nursing care to vulnerable populations adds a transformational element to nurse training that cannot be replicated in a classroom. Emory nursing students say these service-learning activities are a life-changing experience that transforms the way they practice nursing.
