Questions and Answers about Animal Research at Emory University

Are animals ever used in teaching?
Yes, for biology and other basic science classes. The University also uses a small number of animals in teaching health professionals how to do certain procedures, such as inserting a tracheal tube to provide assisted breathing. This means that health professionals do not have to make their first efforts on human patients. These animals are fully anesthetized and are not allowed to wake up following the procedure.
