The Blue Ridge Academic Health Group was founded in 1993 by Don Detmer, then Vice President for Health Affairs at the University of Virginia. Ernst and Young, the consulting company, served as cofounder and sponsor of the group's seminars and reports through the end of 2001. Since 2002 the Group has been sponsored by the Office of the CEO, Woodruff Health Sciences Center, Emory University.
The Blue Ridge Group has issued 27 reports. A book based upon the initial seven reports, entitled, The Academic Health Center: Leadership and Performance, was published in 2005 by Cambridge University Press.
