WHSC launches palliative care center, appoints interim director
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Tammie
E. Quest, MD, as interim director of the new Emory Center for Palliative Care. This type of specialized care seeks to improve quality of life and wellness by addressing the physical, psychological, ethical, spiritual, and social needs of patients
with serious, life-threatening, or progressive chronic illnesses and to provide support to their families and caregivers. A multidisciplinary charter committee led the creation of the palliative care center and crafted its vision: to develop a distinctive
model that advances discovery and innovation and provides holistic and compassionate care.
Quest brings a wealth of experience to her role in leading the center. She is an associate professor in the Department of Emergency
Medicine and holds a secondary appointment in the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology in the School of Medicine. She is board certified in emergency medicine and hospice and palliative medicine and is a Project on Death in America faculty scholar.
She serves as section chief of palliative medicine at the Atlanta VA Medical Center and is the former director of the Georgia Cancer Center for Excellence Palliative Care Oncology Program at Grady Health System. Quest also directs the medical school’s fellowship
program in hospice and palliative medicine. She shares her interest in novel palliative care curriculum design and education methodologies for undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate medical trainees by teaching, locally, regionally, and nationally.
Combined with Quest’s expertise is her passion for improving quality of life for the patients we serve. She will be a tremendous asset as we continue to develop this important and exciting center, which has the potential to positively impact many other programs
at Emory and in the community.
And, as always, thanks for all that you do to help us continue transforming health and healing … together.
