Leadership change at Winship
In late August, Dr. Brian Leyland-Jones resigned as Director of the Emory Winship Cancer Institute to pursue other goals. We’re all indebted to Dr. Leyland-Jones for his vision and diligence in helping Winship garner the NCI designation. His immediate plans are to return to the research laboratory and pursue his specialized interests in personalized translational medicine. He will remain on the Emory medical faculty and will be a professor of hematology and medical oncology in Winship. The Woodruff Health Sciences Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Walter (Wally) Curran as the new Executive Director of Winship and as Associate Vice President for Cancer, Woodruff Health Sciences Center. Dr. Curran, a Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Scholar, has served as the chair of Emory’s Department of Radiation Oncology and as medical director of Winship since 2007. Read more about Dr. Curran’s appointment. The leadership of WHSC welcomes Dr. Curran to his new role and looks forward to working with him as we continue transforming health and healing … together. |
