Meditation Garden Creates Tranquil Retreat for Patients at Emory Crawford Long Hospital

ATLANTA Emory Crawford Long Hospital recently dedicated the Vaughn-Jordan Meditation Garden and hosted members of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees at the ceremony. The garden, which is located directly in front of the new Glenn Building, was made possible by a grant of $50,000 from the Vaughn-Jordan Foundation.

Like the other garden and natural areas around Emory Crawford Long Hospital’s urban campus, the Vaughn-Jordan Meditation Garden creates a tranquil, park-like retreat for patients, families and employees. Set amid a striking view of the downtown skyline, the garden includes a soothing fountain and garden-labyrinth, along with benches that enable visitors to take full advantage of Midtown’s newest, secret garden.

"At Emory Crawford Long Hospital, our goal is to treat the whole person," said Mr. John D. Henry, Sr., FACHE, chief executive officer, Emory Hospitals and Wesley Woods Center. "While we are known for excellent clinical care, we also strive to provide our patients with an environment that is conducive to overall wellness and healing. The new meditation garden is just one example of the fulfillment of this goal, and we greatly appreciate the Vaugh-Jordan Foundation’s generous gift, which made the garden a reality."

Mr. Lewis C. Vaughn, former president of the American Orchid Society, and his wife, Varina, created the Vaughn-Jordan Foundation in 1983 to further the botanical and horticultural sciences. Grants from the Foundation have included special projects related to landscaping, which was of special interest to Mrs. Vaughn’s sister, Winona Jordan.
