Winship Cancer Institute Presents Distinguished 2005 Visiting and Guest Speaker
On Wednesday, Nov. 9, Donald L. Nathanson, MD, Executive Director of The Silvan S. Tomkins Institute and Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, will be guest speaker at Emory Winship Cancer Institute. Dr. Nathanson will deliver a presentation entitled "Know How You Feel: Affective Resonance and the Perils of Cancer Care." The event is free and will take place from 8:30-10 a.m. in the 5th Floor Conference Center, Suite C5012, of Winship, which is located at 1365 Clifton Road NE.

"A hospital is far more than a building to which patients come for treatment," says Dr. Nathanson. "The structure houses a collection of people determined to help others through their most difficult days. This presentation is about the seemingly inexplicable ways we can be thrown off by our patients' powerful feelings and emotions."

A renowned psychiatrist, Dr. Nathanson has more than 50 publications on the subject of the biology and psychology of human emotion. His honors include Fellowships in numerous professional societies, including the American Psychiatric Association, The College of Physicians of Philadelphia, The American Orthopsychiatric Association, The Royal Society of Medicine in London, and the Folger Shakespeare Library.

The event is free and will include a complimentary breakfast. For more information or questions about the event, contact 404-778-5180.
