Deena Gilland, RN, MSN, has been appointed director of nursing for Emory University Winship Cancer Institute, according to Brian Leyland-Jones, MD, PhD, director Emory Winship.

Gilland previously served as oncology services department director for Emory University Hospital. She joined Emory University Hospital in 1988 as a staff nurse in oncology and served as nurse manager in the Hematology/Leukemia Unit from 1996 to 2005.

"We are delighted to announce Deena Gilland's appointment as director of nursing," says Dr. Leyland-Jones. "Deena brings a wealth of experience, a tremendous focus on patient care and a wonderful style of leadership to this critical position within the Emory Winship Cancer Institute."

Gilland earned a masters of science in Leadership and Healthcare Administration through Emory's Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. She is a member of the Oncology Nursing Society and serves as a faculty member in Emory Healthcare's Oncology Residency Program. Gilland also is a member of the American Nurses Association and the Georgia Organization of Nurse Executives.

"Deena is a superb nurse and an exceptional leader," says Susan Grant, MS, RN, chief nursing officer for Emory Healthcare. "We are thrilled she will be taking on these responsibilities. "
