Emory Crawford Long Hospital Named in Top 100 Hospitals for Performance Improvement
Emory Crawford Long Hospital (ECLH) has been named a 2006 Thomson 100 Top Hospitals Performance Improvement Leader by Thomson Healthcare, a leading provider of health care information and decision support solutions focusing on clinical and business performance improvement.

Thomson 100 Top Hospitals (formerly Solucient 100 Top Hospitals) studied the performance of more than 2800 U.S. hospitals in a variety of clinical, financial and operational areas and identified 100 hospitals that improved the most from 2001 to 2005. The study rated hospitals on eight factors: patient mortality, medical complication, patient safety, length of stay, expenses, profitability, cash-to-debt ratio and growth in patient volume.

Hospitals were categorized by: major teaching hospitals; teaching hospitals; large community hospitals; medium community hospitals and small community hospitals. ECLH is categorized as a teaching hospital.

"Clearly, this recognition exemplifies the commitment of Emory Crawford Long Hospital employees and physicians to quality in all aspects of care and business management," says John Fox, chief executive officer, Emory Healthcare. "Our number one focus is the patient and the quality triad of impeccable clinical outcomes, patient safety and patient and family satisfaction. With that focus and our resources as an academic medical center, the synergy of staff and physicians working together gives patients an unparalleled experience."

Performance Improvement Leaders, such as ECLH, demonstrated a variety of ways that real improvement can be achieved in many key areas across the hospital organization simultaneously over and extended timeframe, according to an official with the Thomson 100 Top Hospitals study.

The study analyzed publicly available Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review data and Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) outpatient data.

Results from the 4th edition of Thomson 100 Top Hospitals Performance Improvement Leaders appeared in the August 6 issue of Modern Healthcare magazine. For more details, visit http://www.100tophospitals.com.
