Emory Healthcare Celebrates, Supports MedShare International
WHAT:

For 10 years,Emory Healthcare has shared a strong partnership with MedShare International, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to collecting and redistributing surplus medical supplies and equipment for use by healthcare institutions in economically developing countries.

Since March, Emory employees have collected more than 32,000 pounds of supplies and equipment for MedShare. Additionally, employees have logged more than 200 volunteer hours at MedShare's headquarters in Decatur.

This month, Emory will host two outdoor events to recognize employees and to present a $15,500 check to MedShare International that will be used to sponsor a shipment of vital medical supplies and equipment to a needy health care institution in Nigeria.

WHEN/WHERE:

  • Tuesday, July 24, 11 a.m. -- Noon - Emory University Hospital, Asbury Circle (behind the hospital) -- 1364 Clifton Rd. Atlanta, GA 30322
  • Thursday, July 26, 10 -- 11 a.m. - Emory Crawford Long Hospital, Glenn Building lawn -- 550 Peachtree St., NE Atlanta, GA 30308

WHO:

EMORY HEALTHCARE employees will be recognized for their efforts and will sign banners that will travel with the shipment to its destination. Employees also will present a sponsorship check to co-founder and CEO of MedShare International, A.B. Short. Hon. Consul General, Mr. C.N. Okafor of the Nigerian Consulate, Atlanta is scheduled to attend. The Djeliba Drum Ensemble will offer traditional West African entertainment.
