WHO Unveils Findings of Faith-Based Health Study by Emory University and African Partners
WHAT: The World Health Organization (WHO) will present findings of a major joint study by Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health (RSPH) and the Universities of Cape Town, KwaZulu-Natal and Witwatersrand, all in South Africa, on the role of faith-based organizations in HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care in sub-Saharan Africa.

The study was conducted in Zambia and Lesotho by partners in the African Religious Health Assets Program (ARHAP), a multi-site global collaborative of leadership and researchers in religion and public health. ARHAP is a key feature of Emory's new Religion and Health Collaborative.

Deborah Jones, program director in the RSPH Interfaith Health Program, Hubert Department of Global Health, and study principal investigator Gary Gunderson, MDiv, DMin, will discuss key findings and highlight opportunities for public health and faith-based organizations to collaborate in the global fight against AIDS. The Emory study team also includes Deborah McFarland, PhD, associate professor in the RSPH Hubert Department of Global Health, who served as key research advisor.
