|Sarah E. Goodwin has been appointed Assistant Vice President and Director of Media Relations for Health Sciences Communications at Emory University. She began her duties on Oct. 9, 2006. In this position, she is responsible for overseeing media relations and special events programming.
Goodwin comes to Emory from the American Cancer Society (ACS), where she directed organizational communications for its 7,000 employees nationwide. In this role she developed strategies for use of the ACS enterprise-wide portal/intranet platform to build brand awareness and business literacy within 13 Divisions. Additionally, Goodwin provided leadership for its signature legislative event "Celebration on the Hill," held in Washington, DC, and was a member of the ACS' Futuring and Innovation Center.
Before joining the ACS, Goodwin served as vice president for Greystone.Net, an Atlanta-based boutique firm with a focus on web marketing solutions for hospitals and healthcare organizations.
Goodwin has worked at Emory in two previous roles, one as media relations director in the Health Sciences Communications office, and as assistant director of the Emory University Communications office. While at Emory, Goodwin served on the Emory President's Commission on the Status of Women and the Emory Women's Center Board, and she received the employee Award of Distinction in 2000.
Goodwin's more than 25 years in higher education and healthcare communications also includes directing media relations at Saint Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta, the University of Illinois Chicago Health Sciences Center, and DePaul University. She began her communications career as a reporter at the Atlanta Journal and Constitution.
In 2006, Goodwin received two International Association of Business Communicators awards for the ACS intranet, The Link.
