Emory Public Health Faculty Contribute to Award-Winning Textbook
The Professional and Scholarly Publishing Division (PSP) of the Association of American Publishers (AAP) has chosen "Environmental Health: From Global to Local" to receive the 2005 Award for Excellence in Professional and Scholarship Publishing Publishers in the category of Allied/Health Sciences. The textbook was edited by Howard Frumkin, MD, DrPH, former professor and chair, Dept. of Environmental and Occupational Health, Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University, and includes contributions from a number of the school's faculty.

The award will be presented tomorrow at the awards luncheon during the PSP Annual Conference in Washington, DC. For 30 years, the PSP has acknowledged excellence in book, journal, and electronic publishing, with awards given in over 35 categories.

"Environmental Health: From Global to Local" (Jossey-Bass/Wiley, 2005) surveys contemporary environmental and occupational health issues, tackling them from global, regional, and local perspectives. Some of the textbook's topics include environmental health hazards, war, climate change, radiation, the management of wastes created by humans, and agriculture and food safety. It also addresses how environmental hazards impact public health, and the role of social, political, and regulator factors in these hazards.
