SECEBT Holds Nov. 10 Meeting on Pandemic Flu at Emory
The Southeastern Center for Emerging Biologic Threats (SECEBT) will hold a workshop on "Pandemic Influenza Planning: The Reality of Implementation in the Southeast," on Thursday, Nov. 10 at the Emory Conference Center at Emory University. The Conference Center is located at 1615 Clifton Rd., Atlanta.

SECEBT is a regional partnership led by Emory University that includes 25 university, public health and governmental collaborators and combines academic research, diverse clinical expertise and experience in disease eradication and prevention.

Media are invited to the morning sessions, which will consist of formal presentations. Working groups will participate in closed sessions in the afternoon.

Formal presentations begin at 8:00 a.m. Topics include:

-Overview of national pandemic influenza response and preparedness plan

-Strategies to minimize spread (mathematical models, implementation of containment strategies, legal issues)

-Preparing the healthcare system to care for patients during an influenza pandemic

-Animal/human interface


-Vaccines (priority groups, producing an adequate supply, vaccine candidates, delivery strategies)

-Example of a state plan: North Carolina

-Comparison of Southeastern state plans
