Emory Radiologist to Receive Gold Medal for Outstanding Contributions to the Field
It's top honors for a top radiologist at Emory. Kay Vydareny, MD, professor of radiology, Emory University School of Medicine, will receive the 2005 Gold Medal from the American College of Radiology. The prestigious award will be presented on April 10 at the American College of Radiology's Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.

Dr. Vydareny is one of two people being honored this year as Gold Medalists. Her name will be added to a long list of exceptional researchers and clinicians, which includes Nobel Prize winner Madame Marie Curie, known for her discovery of radium and polonium, among other valuable contributions.

"I am very honored to receive this recognition from the American College of Radiology, and to have my name added to a list of some of the most highly-respected radiologists and scientists throughout the years," says Dr. Vydareny.

Dr. Vydareny is being recognized for her multiple contributions to and long-standing service in the field of diagnostic radiology. She has been on the faculty at Emory since 1991. Prior to that, Dr. Vydareny served on the faculty at both the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. Her research interests include radiological evaluation of cardiothoracic disease and CT screening for lung cancer.

A well-respected diagnostic radiologist among her peers, Dr. Vydareny has held the positions of president in multiple societies including: the American Association of Women Radiologists, the American College of Radiology, the American Roentgen Ray Society and the Association of University Radiologists.

She has previously received a Gold Medal from the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Marie Curie Award from the American Association of Women Radiologists, and several Outstanding Teacher Awards at Emory.

Dr. Vydareny has given countless lectures and presentations on all aspects of diagnostic radiology, and has authored dozens of articles on the topic, as well.
