Emory University Hospital Recognized with NRC Consumer Choice Award
Emory University Hospital has been singled out for recognition as a 2004-2005 NRC Consumer Choice Award winner, the only hospital in Atlanta and one of only two in the state of Georgia to be so honored this year. Emory has won the distinction seven years in a row.

Consumer Choice Awards recognize those hospitals that are named by healthcare consumers as having the highest quality and image in 154 markets throughout the U.S. The NRC (National Research Corporation) annually surveys nearly 140,000 households in the U.S., representing 400,000 persons, to determine consumer preferences. This year's healthcare market guide survey, the largest and most comprehensive of its type, covered households in the 48 contiguous states and the District of Columbia.

The only hospital other than Emory to be named in Georgia was University Health Care System in Augusta. The findings were announced this week by Modern Healthcare.

NRC's chief executive officer, Michael D. Hays, noted that consumers are increasingly active in making their own choices about how and where to seek healthcare services. "With the industry's shift to a consumer-driven model, we are pleased to recognize the healthcare organizations named as leaders by those they serve," he said. "The winners deserve recognition for the emphasis they have placed on providing quality care."

John T. Fox, president and CEO of Emory Healthcare, said it is heartening to see that Georgia consumers recognize Emory as a leader, just like the medical specialists polled annually by U.S. News & World Report who credit Emory as having more nationally ranked specialties and departments than any other hospital in the state.

"We are very gratified to see that consumers understand the advantages of seeking care from a hospital where the future of medicine is being created every day by some of the world's leading physicians and medical scientists," said Mr. Fox. "We work hard to preserve and enhance not only our reputation for innovation, but the day-to-day reality of customer service and high quality."
