Joining Mr. Green will be one of Emory's longest surviving heart transplant patients, Mr. William Smith of Athens, Ga., who is more than 15 years removed since his heart transplant at Emory. The event is an opportunity to Emory physicians, nursing staff and other caregivers to celebrate the incredible milestone of providing more lifesaving hearts than any other center in the state of Georgia over a span of 20 years.

Emory performed Georgia's first heart transplant in 1985 and began its transplant program in 1988. Since that time, Emory physicians have performed more than 700 adult and pediatric heart transplants. In addition to patients, transplant physicians will also be available for comment.

There are currently more than 2,600 men, women and children awaiting a heart transplant across the country and 74 in the state of Georgia.

WHEN:
Friday, June 20 at 2 p.m.

WHERE:
Emory University Hospital 1365 Clifton Rd. NE, Atlanta, GA 30322

MEDIA:
Media must confirm attendance with Lance Skelly by 9 a.m. on Friday, June 20 in order to reserve a spot in the hospital valet parking lot at Emory University Hospital.
