More Than 1,500 Emory Healthcare Employees, Families Will Compete in Peachtree
When 55,000 runners take their places at the starting line of next week's 35th Peachtree Road Race, Emory Healthcare will make its presence known with more than 1,500 employees and family members participating in the world's largest 10K event. In addition, many Emory employees are serving as medical and event volunteers.

Emory Healthcare is sponsoring the event and providing medical services for the 13th straight year. Runners will represent Emory University and Emory's Woodruff Health Sciences Center including Emory University Hospital, Emory Crawford Long Hospital, The Emory Clinic, Wesley Woods, Emory Children's Center, EHCA, Yerkes National Primate Research Center, and the schools of medicine, public health and nursing.

With the 1,500 entrants in this year's race, Emory has almost doubled its representation in the event since 2002, when 800 employees participated. Emory's participation represents the commitment of health care providers to keeping themselves healthy and fit.

"Emory employees, as this year's incredible numbers show, are representing the institution's commitment to stay fit and healthy by not only running in the Peachtree Road Race, but also through the service of our many dedicated volunteers," says Michael M.E. Johns, MD, CEO of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center at Emory University and chairman of Emory Healthcare. "Members of the Emory community can set a strong example by keeping themselves fit and healthy, as well as support others in leading a healthy lifestyle."

John T. Fox, CEO of Emory Healthcare, says, "It is an honor for Emory Healthcare to celebrate the July 4th holiday and the tradition of the Peachtree Road Race with so many dedicated athletes, spectators and volunteers. For more than 13 years, we have been a proud participant and supporter of the Peachtree Road Race. We are pleased to once again partner with the Atlanta Track Club as a sponsor of this world-class event."
