State of the WHSC: Purpose, Direction, Momentum The secret of getting ahead is getting started.—Mark Twain Thanks to those of you who were able to attend my first annual State of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center (WHSC) address earlier this week. For those who couldn't join us in person, we've posted a video of the event online. I hope you'll find time to watch and to learn more about some of our team's outstanding achievements of the past year and exciting strategies for the year ahead. All of your accomplishments and all of WHSC's plans are based on a common purpose that we all share—service to each other, our students, our patients and their families, our supporters, our community, and indeed the world. All three elements of our tripartite mission have service at their core. You've all made fantastic progress in each of our mission areas, and I'm optimistic that the year ahead will find us moving forward with a momentum such as we've never had before. We have the right people and the right skills to harness potential opportunities into another extraordinary year of service to our stakeholders, to society, and to each other. Whether you attended the address in person or whether you watch online, the key takeaway is simply this: Our team shares a strong sense of purpose, we are gaining momentum, and we are going in the right direction—and we're going there on all cylinders. I'm excited about all that we'll achieve together over the coming year, and I hope you are too. As always, thanks for all that you do to move our important work forward. Jonathan S. Lewin, MD |
