"Did you get it all?" is a common question after tumor surgery. With the new hand-held SpectroPen, biomedical engineers will help surgeons see the edges of tumors in real time during surgery. Statistics show that complete removal is the single most important predictor of patient survival for most solid tumors. Ami Klin, PhD, Emory's newest Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar, will be the first head of the Marcus Autism Center and director of the Division of Autism and Related Developmental Disabilities in Pediatrics. Klin headed the renowned Child Study Center at Yale. A primary goal for Klin and his team will be universal screening for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in an infant's first year. Read more. .

A new study called CALM (Compassion and Attention Longitudinal Meditation) will help scientists find out whether specific meditation practices that foster compassion can help people respond better to stress.
