Vaccinating Against Bacterial Infections May Reduce Flu-Related Pneumonia Deaths

Bacterial infections, in particular pneumonia, can follow the flu and cause secondary infections that worsen flu symptoms and increase risk for death. Bacterial infections were a major cause of flu-related pneumonia and death among soldiers and civilians during the 1918 flu pandemic. Vaccinating against bacterial infections could reduce deaths during flu outbreaks. Read more...
