Predictive Health Seminar Features Cardiologist and Author Mimi Guarneri, MD
Mimi Guarneri, MD, will speak on "Personalized Medicine in the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease" as part of the Emory/Georgia Tech Predictive Health Institute's campus-wide seminar series. The seminar will be held Thursday, April 30, 2009 at noon in the School of Medicine Building, Room 110. It is free and open to the public.
Guarneri is author of the book, The Heart Speaks: A Cardiologist Reveals the Secret Language of Healing. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the seminar.
While serving as an attending physician in interventional cardiology at Scripps Clinic, where she placed thousands of coronary stents, Guarneri recognized the need for a more comprehensive and holistic approach to cardiovascular disease. She pioneered the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine, where she uses state-of-the-art cardiac imaging technology and lifestyle change programs to aggressively diagnose, prevent and treat cardiovascular disease.
An English literature major as an undergraduate at New York University, Guarneri received her medical degree from SUNY Medical Center, New York, where she graduated first in her class. She served her internship and residency at Cornell Medical Center, where she became chief medical resident. She completed cardiology fellowships at both New York University Medical Center and Scripps Clinic.
Guarneri is board-certified in cardiology, internal medicine, nuclear medicine and holistic medicine and she is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. She participated as a member of the writing committee for the American College of Cardiology Foundation Complementary Medicine Expert Consensus Document. This expert consensus statement on integrating complementary medicine into cardiovascular medicine was published in 2005.
