Emory Earns Commendation for Cancer Services

Emory University Hospital has earned a commendation from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC). Only one in four hospitals that treat cancer patients receives this special approval.
"The Commission on Cancer conducted a thorough review of our cancer services," says Rein Saral, chairman of Emory University Hospital’s cancer committee and senior associate director of the Emory Winship Cancer Institute. "A commendation from the CoC highlights the level of commitment we have made to the care of patients with cancer."
CoC accreditation recognizes the quality of cancer care available at hospitals that voluntarily agree to achieve accreditation. To meet the standards necessary for commission approval, each cancer program must undergo a rigorous evaluation process and a review of its performance. In order to maintain approval, facilities with approved cancer programs must participate in an onsite review every three years.
