Emory Temporarily Suspends Medical and Research Expansion

Due to the current economic situation, Emory is temporarily suspending the major design and construction of planned new inpatient and outpatient healthcare facilities, as well as health sciences research buildings.

Original plans called for a $1.5 billion project, including approximately $1.1 billion for hospitals and clinic facilities and the balance for added medical research capacity.

In the short term, necessary renovations will move forward to keep clinical care facilities at Emory’s hospitals up to patient standards and able to meet capacity demands.

In addition, Emory will continue to pursue smaller, incremental facilities improvements within existing facilities and smaller construction projects already underway, including the new Rollins School of Public Health building.

When the economy stabilizes Emory will move forward on these initiatives again.
