Shari M. Capers is the Associate Vice President, Strategic Planning for the Woodruff
Health Sciences Center (WHSC) of Emory University. In this role, Ms. Capers manages the activities of the office and is a member on the leadership team of the health sciences center at Emory. The primary role of the office is to manage and maintain the annual planning cycle for the WHSC, which includes plan formation,
communication, evaluation and plan updates. Additionally the office coordinates strategic planning activity across the WHSC and ensures linkages to University efforts; facilitates and prepares business, strategic and financial plans for system priority academic and clinical programs and initiatives; and provides expertise in planning principles and disciplines.
Ms. Capers received a master's degree in Business Administration and a master's in Health Administration from Georgia State University in 1992. Prior to receiving her master's, Ms. Capers was a registered nurse practicing emergency room nursing. She joined Emory in 1996 after four years as a strategy consultant with KPMG's National Healthcare Strategy Practice. During her tenure at Emory, she served as the Manager and Director of the Strategic Planning Office and became the Associate Vice President in 2004.
