Karon Schindler is responsible for overseeing internal and external print and online
publications and other collateral as well as photo
services for Health Sciences Communications at Emory University. She leads a group that produces magazines, newsletters, brochures, reports, displays, and other materials for strategic communication, alumni relations, fund-raising, employee relations, student and faculty recruitment, and other promotional activities.
Her publications have received at least 44 awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, Association of American Medical Colleges, and Public Relations Society of America (Georgia chapter), including eight gold and seven silver awards (CASE), the Fenley writing award and several awards of excellence (AAMC), and two Phoenix awards (PRSA).
Schindler has more than 25 years' experience in medical writing and editing and editorial management. Before joining Emory, she was editor of trade journals produced by publishers in Los Angeles, including Software in Healthcare and Perinatology-Neonatology.
Schindler has a master's in English from Southern Illinois University (Carbondale) and a BA in English and French from Murray State University (Murray, Kentucky).
Schindler is a 2005 alumna of the Woodruff Leadership
Academy and has completed
the core and advanced curricula of the American Medical Writers Association
(AMWA). She is an AMWA fellow and former president of the Southeast chapter.
She is also a member of the Ivy-Atlantic Medical Alumni Magazine Association.
She received an employee Award of Distinction from Emory in 1997.
