STOP SMOKING FOR ONE DAY AND RECEIVE $100 FOR PARTICIPATION IN NICOTINE CRAVING STUDY

Nicotine craving is the focus of a medical study being conducted by researchers at Emory University School of Medicine and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Right-handed men ages 20-45 who regularly smoke cigarettes are currently being recruited. Study subjects will be asked to refrain from smoking for 24 hours before testing and they will receive $100 compensation.

Qualified participants should have no history of alcohol or other drug abuse, no history of major psychiatric conditions or having received prescription psychiatric medications,and no history of major medical conditions including diabetes, HIV, heart disease or stroke.

The study involves brain imaging but does not involve any experimental medications or procedures.Participants will be asked to participate in a screening interview, two one-hour pretest assessment sessions and a four-hour brain scanning session. The screenings will be conducted by scientists in Emory's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences located in The Emory Clinic, Building B, 1365 Clifton Rd., N.E., Atlanta.
