MLK COMPATRIOT TO SPEAK; ARCHBISHOP TUTU TO BE HONORED; COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDS WILL BE PRESENTED JAN. 21

WHAT: The 1999 Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Awards and other MLK observance activities jointly sponsored by the Goizueta Business School and Rollins School of Public Health of Emory University. This year's theme is KEEPING THE DREAM ALIVE THROUGH PUBLIC HEALTH & ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT: A CHALLENGE FOR THE NEW MILLENNIUM

WHO: The Rev. C.T. Vivian, a friend and compatriot of Dr. King's, described as "a battle-scarred American Civil Rights pioneer," is the featured speaker.

Archbishop Desmond M. Tutu, the Robert W. Woodruff Visiting Professor at Emory's Chandler School of Theology, will receive the International Service Award.

Community Services Awards will be presented to representatives of some 20 civic and corporate organizations.

WHERE: Goizueta Business School Auditorium and Student Commons, Room 130, Emory University, 1300 Clifton Rd., N.E. Atlanta.

WHEN: Thursday, Jan. 21

PROGRAM:

1-4 p.m. -- INTERACTIVE EXHIBIT: Organizations nominated for Community Service Awards will present information about their work.

4 p.m. -- LECTURE & AWARDS CEREMONY: The Rev. Vivian will speak, Archbishop Tutu will be honored and 10 Special Recognition Awards and seven Exemplary Service Awards will be presented to "individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions in the areas of community empowerment and/or economic development."

5 p.m.-RECEPTION
