Facial hair in women, precancerous lesions on the face, and facial acne in females over 14 are the skin conditions being evaluated in three studies now underway in the Department of Dermatology at the Emory University School of Medicine.

Women with excessive facial hair on the lip and chin are being recruited for a study testing the safety and effectiveness of an investigational topical medication. Women will be asked to visit the Dermatology Research Unit at Emory University Hospital nine times over a seven-month period. For information, call Sandy Crawford at 404/ 778-4959.

Men and women over age 18 are needed for a research study of actinic keratosis--precancerous lesions associated with sun damage. The study will compare two creams.

Volunteers should have five or more facial lesions. They will be asked to visit the Dermatology Research Unit about six to eight times over 10 weeks. For information, contact Dr. John Kayal at 404/ 778-5403.

Females age 14 and over are being recruited for a study testing the safety and effectiveness of an oral contraceptive to treat moderate facial acne. Participants must not be using birth control pills for contraception. Volunteers will make about seven office visits to the Dermatology Research Unit over a six-month period. For information, call 404/ 778-5403.

Qualified volunteers in all the studies will be compensated for time and travel. Study examinations and medications will be provided at no cost.

The Dermatology Research Unit is located on 6B South Wing of Emory University Hospital, 1364 Clifton Rd., N.E., Atlanta.
