Emory Clinic primary care health centers and the Emory Heart Center have planned a number of ways to spread heart disease prevention messages throughout Heart Month in February. Information on HeartCheck Screenings and health center Open Houses, the Heart Healthy Lecture Series, cooking classes and Wine Tasting are provided below. HEARTCHECK SCREENINGS AT OPEN HOUSES:



The $5 HeartCheck Screenings include blood glucose and serum cholesterol testing, blood pressure and weight/height measurements, and nutrition counseling.

    The Emory Clinic at Northlake LaVista Perimeter Office Park, 2191 Northlake Pkwy., Bldg. 11, Ste. 22, Tucker. Feb. 8 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

    The Emory Clinic at South DeKalb 2764 Candler Rd., Decatur Feb. 8 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

    The Emory Clinic at Perimeter 875 Johnson Ferry Rd., Atlanta Feb. 8 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

    The Emory Clinic at Smyrna 3969 South Cobb Dr., Ste. 201, Smyrna Feb. 16 from Noon-4 p.m. (includes Ribbon Cutting at 1 p.m.)


HEART HEALTHY LECTURE SERIES:


The following Heart Healthy Lecture Series talks are free and will take place from 7-8:30 p.m. at The Emory Clinic at Perimeter, 875 Johnson Ferry Rd., Atlanta. Emory Heart Center cardiologists will speak.

    Feb. 11 -- Understanding the Heart



    Feb. 18 -- Is Your Heart Healthy?



    Feb. 25 -- Preventing and Treating Heart Disease



EMORY HEARTWISEsm DINING COOKING CLASSES:


Nancy Anderson, R.D., M.P.H., director of Emory Heart Center's HeartWisesm Dining Program will offer HeartWisesm Dining Cooking Classes at the following Kroger School of Cooking locations. Students can do their own in-class cooking and may sample all foods prepared. The $15-$35 class fees include food costs.

WINE TASTING AT VILLA CHRISTINA:


A Wine Tasting sponsored by Atlanta Wine Guild and The Emory Heart Center is planned for Feb. 16 from 1-6 p.m. at Villa Christina, 1395 Lake Hearn Dr., N.E., Atlanta. The event is $35 in advance, $40 at the door and is open to the public.
