ll year long you have heard us talk about and helped us celebrate our Centennial year. In the spring issue of this magazine, we focused on the school’s rich history. In this issue, we focus on our Centennial theme—The Future of Caring. Now. As we begin a new school year, it’s appropriate for us to consider what this theme means.
At Emory, we are not content to simply graduate more nurses. Rather we seek to educate nurses who will lead in changing and improving care. We are uniquely positioned to do this important work.
The alumni, faculty, and students featured in this issue are definitely leading the way.
Our cover story focuses on our state-of-the-art simulation lab, the largest on campus, where we train undergraduate and graduate nursing students in hands-on patient care and clinical decision-making and offer a new interdisciplinary program in emergency care for nursing and medical students.
Our faculty and students are also improving care on an international level. Members of our faculty were instrumental in developing the first-ever BSN curriculum for the Eastern European nation of Georgia. Nursing senior Rebecca Wheeler is making strides in international leadership, having represented Emory and U.S. student nurses in Taipei as the new president of the National Student Nurses’ Association.
Educating nursing leaders who can improve care is not a new concept for us. We count an incredible number of alumni as deans and directors of nursing schools, both nationally and abroad. As you read this magazine, you will see that these alumni, and our students and faculty, truly are The Future of Caring. Now.
